The Roger Scruton Legacy Foundation awarded seven fully-funded fellowships to the Scrutopia Summer School. The event took place in and around Sir Roger Scruton's home near historic Malmesbury in the Cotswolds, United Kingdom, from 19 - 26 July 2024. The fellowship covered tuition fees, which includes accommodation and board at the Royal Agricultural University as well as the costs of all the planned activities.
The Scrutopia Summer Programme offers a seven-day immersion experience in the philosophy and outlook of Sir Roger Scruton, the British writer and philosopher. Each day, philosophy lectures were interspersed with visits to nearby historical sites such as Malmesbury, providing an experience of the historical depth of this unique part of England. The visits also included a guided walk of the Scruton family farm, Sundey Hill Farm, alongside a BBQ with locally sourced produce and a concert of chamber music performed in the Scruton Library. Each evening, participants shared dinner together, culminating the day’s events with further discussions over wine.
